I am trying to update my Office , but I get this error. I'm stuck. MY base problem is trying to get Solver to load into Excel When I try to install the Solver ad-in:. It MIGHT be possible to help it along - but before starting down this path, wait to see if a Microsoft Engineer comes along with a better suggestion. XLAM in it or not. If there is not one be sure you can view hidden and system files , and if there is not one there, then create a dummy file you could try using another.
DLL to go with it. But this is a stretch - might not work at all heck, could make things worse - but at least you'll have your Restore Point to fall back on, and after Restoring you could delete the dummy files and be back in the same stuck-in-the-mud place you're at right now. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. I don't have any real suggestions for you beyond what I've already offered.
I was hoping one of the Microsoft Tech types would look into this. You might consider reposting, with a title to attract their attention, like. And then repeat what you've tried to date in it along with the problem description.

In reply to JLLatham's post on September 29, Thanks, but I have tried all of this before, except setting up dummy files. I can't restore, I can't uninstall Office to reinstall. They all fail. I fear my laptop is compromised. Other than this Solver problem, the laptop works well enough. I've ordered a new laptop, Windows 8, on which I will install a new copy of Office In reply to Derrick Duehren's post on September 29, Raju S Das.
